We Can’t Stay Away from Garbanzo’s

By Laura Nivin Leave a Comment

UPDATE FOR MY READERS: Garbazo’s closed in late 2020.

My family first ate at Garbanzo’s about two months ago. And ever since then, it has become the most frequently requested place to eat from everyone in my house!

I guess it is so surprising to me because this restaurant is Mediterranean and offers a very healthy menu of food. When your teenage boy and 8 year old girls insist on a whole wheat pita with feta cheese, chicken and hummus as their food to eat out, who am I to argue?

(Kid’s Meal Bowl)

The restaurant is located in Huebner Oaks and is the only one of its kind in the San Antonio area according to their website. They offer a variety of soups, salads, pitas, laffas (kind of like a burrito) and platters with your choice of protein.

The interior is very bright and set up kind of like Chipotle or Subway. You go down the line and tell them what fresh item of food that you would like on your choice of entree. There are so many sides to try and most of which, we had never heard of! They have great descriptions of each item to assist you.

The staff is very eager to help you decide and are more than willing to give you a sample!

In fact, you are guaranteed to receive a falafel at every visit!

The kids meals are so healthy. The pita is available on whole wheat bread and you have a choice of apples, rice or chips as a side. I must warn you though that the chips are a little addictive, ok, very addictive!

And I cannot forget to mention the tea. They have three different kinds of brewed tea that are so refreshing. A black tea, pomegranate and a lemongrass, I know! Aren’t those some sassy choices for tea?

As a busy working mom, I wanted to share my find with you so you can have an option when you are trying to scramble to feed your kids something healthy. Now that school is back in session, we are going from event to event. This place helps me feel less guilty about having to eat out a little more. And there’s the fact that I don’t have to do the dishes!

For more details and to get a look at their menu, visit Garbanzo’s.

Love y’all.
