The Sassy Girlfriend’s Top 10 Favorite Things #2

By Laura Nivin Leave a Comment

Here is my Sassy Girlfriend’s list of favorites for this week! I told you it was a series. Could this lead to possible spin offs like Bethenny goes to Fiesta or Real Housewives of Castle Hills? OK, probably not, but it sure is fun to make my friends feel like Oprah for a day!

Meet my friend Barbara. I asked her to send me her favorite picture of herself. This picture pretty much sums her up. I will never forget when I first met her. I was attending my very first general meeting of Junior League of San Antonio. I didn’t know very many people at all and I was a little nervous. There was a big crowd of ladies across the room laughing and cutting up right before the meeting and I was wondering if this was normal. Once the crowd parted, right in the very middle of the group was Barbara. She is always the center of fun. She is an outstanding teacher, wife and mother. She is raising the most delightful teenage boys you will ever meet. Yes, I used delightful and teenage boy in the same sentence! Her husband is in a rock band. Yes, she is that cool.

I know you will enjoy her list. Our world is brighter because of my sweet, smart, funny, pretty and charming friend Barbara!

Barbara’s Top 10 Sassy Essentials

(not including living beings, electronics, pharmaceuticals, or abstract ideals)

10. ‘Tis better than riches to scratch where it itches-A Good Back-Scratcher. I like my $3 wooden one from El Mercado.

9.  Johnson’s baby shampoo to wash my eyes out during cedar season.

8. Comfortable, but fun shoes like my purple fur-lined Merrells.

7.  A good scarf, muffler, sarong, shawl, sash, or anything I can throw around my neck to hide a stain, a jowl, or a so-so shirt.

6. Pillows

5. Sunshine on my shoulders…or any other inoffensive body part. Yes, Mom, I’m using SPF 50,000.

4. The only two school supplies I tell my students they need: something to write with and something to write on.

3. Fage (pronounced fah-yeh) Greek yogurt. Especially cherry flavored. While I am not a fan of yogurt, this is more like eating soft cream cheese and has become my most recent obsession.

2.  Pet Food. While this is not for my own personal snacking, it is about the only thing I will go to the store for when I don’t feel like going to the store.

1.  Fresca. I fear a night without one. It is the perfect nightstand beverage. It stays carbonated all night long and is the most thirst-quenching beverage I have found.

That was fun. When can we do it again?
