Scenes from Fiesta at the VFW

By Laura Nivin 2 Comments

Our local VFW 76 that is located on the Museum Reach portion of the River Walk, hosts a family friendly Fiesta event. Not only is it the oldest VFW post in Texas but it is housed in the most exquisite building. The proceeds from their Fiesta event will help support renovations in this historic Victorian mansion as well as offer financial assistance to their veterans in need.

Bring your lawn chairs and listen to the variety of live music. They have booked music that is Tejano,Blues, Country and Western and the Oldies. The atmosphere is laid back and you will enjoy a lovely view on the river.

This beautiful arch greets you at the entrance.

And so does Geronimo. He volunteers at the gate.

We recognized each other from business luncheons in the mortgage business!

He’s awfully sweet!

You can take a river barge right to their front door!

Look who was walking in the gate on the river side.

She is Fiesta personified! I had to take her picture!

What a ray of sunshine!

And I had to take their picture too! The lady in the hat is Danielle. I haven’t seen her in forever!  She used to work with the hubby. That is another thing to love about Fiesta. You see people you haven’t seen in awhile. She’s a fancy event planner with her mom.

You go Danielle!

I just love this old house.

It was completed in 1904 and owned by a lumber dealer named Van A. Petty.

I bet he never dreamed that it would be the site of such festive events!

or a place to dance and listen to music.

The dancers and drummers were just wonderful.

Don’t you love their costumes.

This booth at the event is called Soldiers Angels.

It relies on donations to send care packages to units that are deployed in remote locations. Visit Soldiersangels for more details on how to help.

God Bless our Troops.

Here is another view of the Riverwalk from the VFW.

It is so quiet and peaceful.

It is my favorite part of the Museum Reach.

The building in the background is the San Antonio Museum of Art.

Here are some more beautiful volunteers!

What wonderful smiles.

Well of course they have chicken on a stick!

Fiesta wouldn’t happen without the thousands and thousands of volunteers.

We live in the best city!

VIVA FIESTA!

For more information visit Fiesta or VFWPost.

The VFW Post 76 is open all year round in case you can’t make it during Fiesta.

It is the perfect laid back location to drink a cold beer with your friends on the Riverwalk.

Stay Sassy Y’all.
