Magnolia Giveaway

By Laura Nivin 16 Comments

I have the most marvelous magnolia tree in my front yard. It is full of flowers. I can’t remember the last time it bloomed so much.

A few years ago, I didn’t think this tree was going to survive the drought.

I am so happy it did. The tree is resilient, like so many wonderful Southern women I know and love.

The scent when the wind blows just a little is incredible!

It has been way too long so I am having a little give away!

In order to enter to win a $25.00 gift card to La Madeleine, comment on this post about your favorite Steel Magnolia character. It can be the one that you are the most like or the one that you would like to be more like!

My favorite is Clairee.  Her line  “The only thing that separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize” is my mantra!

Comment on this Post to enter for the gift card. You don’t have to give your full name. I protect your email addresses from others. I promise.

We will draw on Friday May 25th!

Love ya’ll.

Stay Sassy.

Truvy is my favorite character, “Smile, it increases your face value.”

I love Ouiser best but my favorite quote is Clairee saying “Well, you know what they say: if you don’t have anything nice to say about anybody, come sit by me!”.

I know a lot of Ouisers but not that cranky!

You don’t have to put quotes but I don’t think we can run out-there are so many good ones! I think I’ve seen the movie 100 times-always a good cry!
Love ya’ll and thanks for commenting and entering! La Madeleine is pretty sassy!

Since I turned (ahem, cough, cough) 50 a few years ago, I have TOTALLY adopted Ouiser as not only my hero, but also my muse. She speaks her mind. There’s no doubt where you stand with her. She’s fiercely independent and strong. She’s funny as all get out and just a little bit crazy………..no doubt, because the people around her made her that way. And yet, once you peel back the layers, she has a heart bigger than anyone else in the movie, and a kindness about her that defies description.

I am Ouiser…………..and, Ouiser is me. I too am not as sweet as I used to be. 😉

(And besides, she has all the BEST lines in the movie!! )

I loved Sally Field’s character, M’Lynn Eatenton. She displays a mother’s constant struggle to protect their child from the dangers that her wisdom tells her are inevitable. She overcame so much with the love and support of her “sassy” girlfriends! Really every character has their own unique trait. The movie was so awesome because of the way their personalities compliment each other. Just like in real life. We all have different types of friends that we call on to support us in different ways, i.e. the party friends vs. the supportive/”shoulder to cry on” friends. Your website reminds me of the charm of Steel Magnolias!

I would have to say M’Lynn as well. Protecting your daughter (or son) against all odds is a lifetime job! She did it with style, “sass” and a lot of help from her girlfriends.

    Ouiser is my favorite.

Ouiser: I am just about at the end of my rope with you.
Drum: well then why don’t you tie a noose and slip it ’round your head?

This is fun. I love Clairee and Ouiser together…such great lines and acting.

Clairee: “Ouiser, you sound almost chipper. What happened today – you run over a small child or something?”

Ouiser : “I’m not crazy, I’ve just been in a very bad mood 40 years”

It would be hard to pick a favorite character, as they all have a certain amount of sass to them….I have a very close-knit group of girlfriends, and one night when we got together for a movie night (complete with margaritas and pina coladas), we watched Steel Magnolias, and tried to nickname each other by the character that best fit each of our personalities….. we finally concluded that each of us had a little of EACH of the characters in us, but we ALL had a LOT of Ouiser!! lol

I think I admired Shelby the most, though….such a young, vibrant woman, with a full life ahead of her. But she took on her sickness with plenty of southern sass, and lived her life to the fullest til the end, choosing not to deprive herself or herself of the joy of motherhood.

I adore Steel Magnolias and watch it every chance I get! Soo many good lines…Ouiser is probably my favorite cause she is so sassy, but with a big heart. “Yes, you’re right, I’m having an affair with a Mercedes Benz.” And Joy laughs every time I say “guilty” like Anelles character. And Truvys “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion!” And, of course, the scene at the end where Ouiser and Clairee are trying to push each other off the tree stump..reminds me of me and La in our old age! There! Have I convinced you I know about the show??? Pick me! <3 y'all!
