I love weddings. I love family weddings even more. I recently attended my niece’s wedding at the Dallas Arboretum. I was looking forward to seeing my family and taking in the beauty that the grounds of the Arboretum has to offer. I hadn’t been back since I had my bridal portrait done over eighteen years ago.
Little did I know when I drove into the entrance of the Arboretum that not only would there be a wedding to attend that afternoon, but an art exhibit as well.
Dale Chihuly is a world- renowned artist that combines art and glass in exquisite sculpture. In this exhibit, his work is featured among nature in the 66 acres that encompasses the Arboretum which includes some water elements along White Rock Lake.
I have long admired his unique and colorful glass pieces of art. There are a couple of these art pieces in San Antonio that take my breath away every time I see them; at the Museum of Art and the downtown public library. Seeing his work framed by the lush landscaping of the Arboretum is one of the most rare experiences that I have ever encountered.
The color combinations used in the glass make you wonder if you are observing nature or a piece of art. This sense of wonderment does not end throughout your entire stroll through the grounds. We were there during the daytime so I can only imagine what the sculptures look like when they are lit at night.
My niece Sarah and her new husband Jason were fortunate enough to have their beautiful and intimate ceremony surrounded by these brilliant works of art.
The wedding guests had views of this wonderful piece of glass titled, “Yellow Icicle Tower” and it does tower at over 30 feet tall. You can see a glimpse of it in this picture in the background. It is located in the Jonsson Color Garden. It adjoins Nancy’s Garden where the ceremony took place.
Pictured are my brother and his wife and daughter.
You can’t tell who the Mom is, can you!
Here is another view that is a little closer.
These are my sisters. Aren’t they pretty!
Not only did it make for unique features in the background of their wedding reception pictures but they will be in a very special group of brides and grooms that can say that they had a Chihuly wedding It was unique, lovely and magical.
May your love and marriage to each other be all of this and so much more.
Even if you aren’t lucky enough to have a wedding invitation at the Dallas Aboretum, you should consider making a trip to see this exhibit. It will continue until November 5th. Crowds are coming from all over the world to see it. And thanks to my beautiful niece and her new husband, we were able to see it too.
You can see more details and pictures of the exhibit at www.dallasarboretum.org.
Stay Sassy Ya’ll .
