Can you spare a day out of your busy schedule to be inspired?
What if I told you that it is an event that up until now, has only been held in New York City?
It is headed down south to Texas.
And of all the cities in Texas, San Antonio is the one playing host, or make that hostess!
Tina Brown’s Women in the World Texas will gather some of the most well-known and powerful women to take the stage at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre.
Not only will you have the opportunity to hear discussions from the Texas women: Former Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, Ambassador Karen Hughes, Eva Longoria, Rosie Castro and our City Manager Sheryl Sculley and Mayor Ivy Taylor, there is also a list of women from around the globe.
Sister Rosemary Nyirumbe, Gloria Steinem, Diane von Furstenberg are among the featured speakers that will share their stories of how they became trailblazers and leaders in their chosen professions.
You will also hear from women who are on the front lines in their homes on a daily basis. Military wives have the added stress of keeping their households together while their spouses are gone, often on extended tours of duty. I cannot think of women I respect more and San Antonio is fortunate to be home to a large military population.
The moderators of these various discussions will be journalists: Alyse Nelson, Alicia Menendez, Jan Jarboe Russell, Mark McKinnon and Sarah Lucero.
The presenting sponsor of the event is Toyota, other sponsors include the City of San Antonio, Credit Suisse, Liz Claiborne, JC Penney, The CE Group, Mokara Hotels and Spas and Omni La Mansion del Rio. A portion of ticket proceeds will be donated to the Texas based non-profit, Foundation for the Education of Young Women.
It promises to be a jam packed day filled with stories of women who continue to make a difference not only a world-wide stage, but in their local communities.
The event will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 and the doors will open at 8:30am with the program running until 3pm. You can find out more detailed information and purchase tickets at Ticketmaster and TinaBrownMedia. Space is limited so don’t wait to buy your tickets!
Stay Sassy Y’all.
