November has been a whirlwind month for our family.
We’ve been going back and forth to Dallas to be with Nana who has been in the hospital.
A couple of weeks ago, the doctors were preparing us for the worst scenario.
After a very angst filed six days of biopsies and waiting for test results, we had the best of news.
The doctors seemed shocked at the results. Did you know it is possible to actually jump for joy?
Good thing there were plenty of doctors and nurses on hand when I came back down!
God had a different plan.
Soon my mother in law will be back in her old place, as the unofficial social director of the assisted living center. To say that she’s been missed is an understatement. I felt like one of those “celebrity handlers” when the residents recognized me as Sue’s daughter in law. I was peppered with questions and they all wanted to know the exact date of when they could expect her return. It seems their bridge games have been a little boring without her!
Oh, to be so loved!
And as Thanksgiving week approaches, I feel especially thankful.
Here’s a short list of things I am thankful for.
I tried not to get too mushy!
*For God’s healing.
*Time spent with friends in Dallas: Jeanne, Laura, Richard and Cheryl.
*Sunday drives with my boy who is in training for his driver’s license.
*Those handle grips in your car so you can survive the “parent taught” driver’s education you opted for to save a little money.
*Long time neighbors who randomly bring over wine and chocolate.
*A husband that can juggle all our kid’s activities just as much as I can, if not better.
*Knowing that I’ll soon be having some of my sister in law’s Watergate salad and the school cafeteria ladies’ turkey dressing with our great big East Texas family.
*For the Spanx to wear after the Thanksgiving feast.
And last but not least, for this little blog I started exactly three years ago this month.
I remember on my 13th birthday, my sister Liz found some poetry I had written and showed it to our mom. I was so mad at her for getting in my personal space. I was crying on my bed being an overly dramatic teenager when they both walked in my room. Liz had the spiral notebook in her hand and told me that I should keep on writing. My mom chimed in and agreed and added, “Whatever you decide to do, make sure you love it. Do what you would do for free.”
Who knew thirty something years later that I would have a space to write?
I realize now that I have to write.
I hope you keep reading.
May you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with great food, football and laughter, lots and lots of laughter!
Stay Sassy Y’all.
