San Antonio’s local firefighters will be competing in the 2nd annual Firefighter Q Off this Sunday, June 24th from 2 to 5:30pm at the Q on the Riverwalk inside the Hyatt Regency Hotel. They had such a good time last year that they are doing it again! We sure hope you can join them in this fun-filled day!
Not only will you see some of our city’s finest competing for the ultimate prize of best barbeque recipe, you will be able to learn all about fire prevention and grilling safety.
Sparky the Firedog will be there to share his tips on fire safety and prevention. Kids will be allowed to try on firefighter helmets,suits and boots and even explore an antique fire truck. What a perfect photo opportunity! This will all be going on while real firefighters compete to see who takes home the title of best barbeque recipe.
This family friendly event is free but donations to the Texas Burn Survivor Society is strongly encouraged. There will also be limited edition Firefighter Q Off aprons and cookbooks and raffle tickets available for purchase that will all go towards this charity as well.

2 to 4 pm Exploring Barbecue and Fire Safety

▪ Barbecue patrons taste and cast votes for the People’s Choice Award
▪ Antique fire truck tours
▪ Fire safety demonstrations from Sparky and his team along with kid-friendly giveaways
▪ Limited edition Firefighter Q Off apron, cookbook and raffle sales inside Q to benefit the
Texas Burn Survivor Society
4 to 5 pm Heat it Up Competition
▪ Firefighter Iron Chef-style competition behind Q’s wall of fire
5 to 5:30 p.m. Q it Off Judging Panel
▪ Celebrity judging
▪ Presentation of winning trophy and prizes
▪ Announcement of raffle and additional prize winners
Here are some very important tips from Sparky the Firedog for safe outdoor entertaining. It is worth repeating whether you come out on Sunday or grill on Saturday!
▪ Never use gasoline to start a cooking fire
▪ Keep the grill clear of trees, wooden fences and low-hanging eaves
▪ Never grill on balconies of multistory buildings
▪ Always keep a fire extinguisher or hose nearby
▪ Use cooking utensils with long handles that do not conduct heat
▪ Keep children away from grilling area
