Last night, my husband asked me if I wanted to attend a speech he was giving at the San Antonio Museum of Art. At first I said no because I had a lot to do at home. I then remembered that they have the Aphrodite exhibit as SAMA right now. I have been wanting to see it and blog about it so of course, I changed my mind. He had been asked to speak about a report he had done on San Antonio’s creative economy. A non-profit called, LOOP, which stands for Leadership Organization of Professionals would be the people to be in attendance. They were all going to share their ideas on how best to help promote the local arts in San Antonio. There were also panelists, which consisted of Suzanne Scott, of theFUND, Katie Luber of SAMA and Karen Adkisson who owns the dance studio, Karavan.
As I listened intently to their discussions, I was struck by the passion that these young and well-educated men and women have for San Antonio. Some of them have just moved here and are already taking the time to contribute their voice and ideas from what had worked in their experience while in different parts of the country.
It was very exciting to see these respected members of the arts community come away with perspectives from so many in the social media generation. I almost felt hip just observing It all. Well, kind of.
Being there also reminded us that we needed to renew our family membership to the San Antonio Museum of Art. We have been members primarily to take advantage of the First Sunday for Families. One our daughter’s loves art more than anything and this monthly event is always enjoyable.
We found out about a new event that could be our next date night. SAMA hosts pARTy at SAMA every 2nd Friday. This month’s event is tonight, November 9th from 6- 8pm. It includes music and cocktails. A cash bar will be available overlooking the banks of the Riverwalk’s Museum Reach. You can buy a museum membership for $45 individually or $75 family for a family or just pay the $10 museum admission. Sip wine on the beautiful pavilion and when the music ends, you can always take a leisurely stroll to the Pearl and have dinner at La Gloria or some of the other restaurants located around there.
Parking is free and right across the street from the museum.
It sounds like the perfect date night to me.
Disclaimer: This exhibit may make you blush, I mean really make you blush but it is all in the name of art so you need to go see it!
After all, aren’t you supposed to blush on date night!
