In my former life as an account executive in the mortgage business, I could tell you any restaurant in town to take a client under any set of circumstances. I believe it does make a difference as to whether you want to build a relationship, apologize for something that might have gone wrong, or just thank them for supporting you. Each place sets a tone based on their food and ambiance. My husband used to tease me and tell people who asked what his wife did for a living, “She does lunch and she does it well!”
When someone called me the other day to ask me a place to take her mother in law for lunch, I suggested Pam’s Patio Kitchen. I was shocked to learn that she had never been there before. I thought everyone knew about this great restaurant. It also made me realize that I hadn’t been there in awhile and then I couldn’t shake my sudden craving for their salad.
Well, Pam’s Patio Kitchen does lunch and they do it extremely well. They do breakfast and dinner too. I wish I still had an expense account because I would go there a lot more often. The food can be a little pricey but it is worth it. Even though I don’t have a “real” job anymore, I somehow manage to splurge every now and then.
I recently met my friend Christa there for lunch. Her husband is the president of one of the local chambers of commerce so she probably does lunch even better than I do! The place can get crowded at high noon so we got there a little early so we wouldn’t have to stand in line. I hate to wait. I am sassy like that! There are menus at the front of the line but I always read them over and end up ordering the same thing. My food of choice at Pam’s Patio is the combination half salad and half sandwich. I get the Thai beef steak salad that is served on a bed of rice and the half chicken salad sandwich on their whole grain bread. They serve the sandwich with homemade tortilla chips and mango salsa. The salsa that I would walk through a 10 foot snow storm to eat. OK, I won’t ever have to do that since it never actually snows in San Antonio, but can you feel my passion for this little cup of salsa?
After you order, you slide your tray down to serve yourself drinks and complimentary house made focaccia bread. You will also see their incredible desserts on display and the freshly made strawberry lemonade to tempt you even more. I resisted on this visit but the carrot cake is by far one of my favorites.
It was a beautiful day on their patio so there was no seating available outside. There were plenty of seats inside and they have even added some booth seating since my last visit. I much prefer to sit in a booth. This makes me happy and so does catching up with my dear friend Christa. We had a lot to talk about. I can attest to the comfort of their booth seating. We were there for a while. We did lunch and we did it well.
You really need to put this on your list of places to try. Don’t think it is a “ladies who lunch” only spot. There were lots of men there too! They have recently added some new hours. Here is their website to get the most recent information www.pamspatio.com They are located at Lockhill Selma and Wurzbach Pkwy in the far back corner of the shopping center. Phone number 210-492-1359 and the address is 11826 Wurzbach San Antonio,TX 78230.
