I went with one of the twins on her class field trip to the zoo today. I just love field trips. I think I love them so much because it was the only time that our Mom let us have any form of junk food. We could buy one bag of chips for our sandwich and a soft drink. The thrill of picking out my very own Shasta flavored drink was almost too much to take. I was wide awake the night before any field trip. I remember writing my name on the that little piece of masking tape and then putting that soft drink in the huge class cooler with all our packed lunches with such anticipation!
I was so excited to be with Catherine and her class at the San Antonio Zoo. The weather was beautiful and the grounds are just lovely this time of year.
We had time to stop and smell the roses and the elephants. Those pachyderms would really benefit from a personal hygeine class! Very malodorous! Fancy word for stinky!
We brushed some very hairy pigs. Don’t they know laser hair removal treatments can always be found on Groupon for at least 75 percent off?
Pink flamingos of all shapes and sizes. These are Chilean flamingos.
These flamingos were grouped together. Some are called Greater Flamingos and Lesser Flamingos. I couldn’t tell the difference. I am pretty sure the Lesser Flamingos are going to have self esteem issues at some point in their lives.
We were heading back towards the entrance to catch the bus when we saw this fish feeder. Catherine wanted to feed the fish. It requires 25 cents. I searched and dug and shook my purse. I could not find one single, solitary quarter. In my 15 pound purse with 2 cameras,a fork,15 tubes of lipstick, wipes, lotion, hand sanitizer,a copy of our 2011 tax return and 2 packs of cinnamon sugar free gum and not one dadgum quarter.
My daughter could wait no more. She decided to feed the fish with whatever was on her person. Next thing I knew her two shoes were in the water. When I went to ask for help to retrieve her now fishy smelling shoes out of the water….plop. Why, the fish needed to see! She threw her glasses in next!
Well of course she did!
Sweet Nikki from the zoo staff came to our rescue. She said it happens sometimes and had the perfect net to fish them out.Glasses are fine. I got a good workout carrying the barefooted daughter three quarters of the way to the bus.
The shoes are all washed and shiny like they are brand new. I now have a roll of quarters in my purse.
And I made us fish for supper.
The End.
Stay Sassy Y’all.
