What’s that?
I’ve got too much to do with the kids and all their activities……blah, blah, blah.
Let me tell you a little secret. If you don’t carve out a little space for each other, you will regret it. And you will be in a better frame of mind and less stressed out!
Marriage is hard. You must get away every now and then. Do you really want to wake up one day after the last kid is going off to college and realize you don’t even know that person you married anymore? If not, you need to get to work and figure out a way to get together!
I’ve been thinking about marriage advice since two of my nephews are getting married soon. I wrote a blog post a few years ago that laid out some suggestions. I realized that I needed to take some of that advice to heart and reconnect with my hunk of burning love!
Well, I booked an overnight stay for the big Stud and I out in the hill country. It wasn’t easy. Even though it was spring break, there was still massive amounts of planning involved so we could have at least 24 hours together. And the boy has a job now so we had to make sure he’d be around to babysit. Whew, all that stuff was exhausting. We were still texting all the kids as we were headed up the interstate.
It was almost impossible to find a place to stay in the hill country for just one night in my internet search. Most of the bed and breakfast spots require a two night minimum. I found one that is primarily a wedding venue so it only had the restriction on the weekends. And I made reservations for dinner at a place that we’ve been wanting to try since they opened.
As we were getting closer to our destination, I was getting kind a giddy! After almost 23 years of marriage, you have to keep that spark alive!
There’s just something about staying at a place that hosts a bunch of weddings to make you feel like honeymooners!
Hubba Hubba.
Paniolo Ranch was the perfect get away. It is tucked away on the backroads on the outskirts of Boerne. It’s about the distance when you start asking each other if you have the right address! It also means that your phone reception is a little sketchy! They do have in room WIFI so you can get emails, but that’s is it. And that’s a good thing because everyone needs time away from their devices.
Our host brought us trays for snacks and breakfast that we could store in the in room refrigerator. It was all so fresh and delicious. I was thrilled about getting to sleep in and not having to dress the next morning and be there at a certain time as in traditional bed and breakfast places.
We could have ordered a meal and had it in the main house but we opted to drive back in town and try out a new place in Boerne. We kept seeing Peggy’s on the Green at various events around town. We tried to sample some soup at the SAMMinistries Annual Empty Bowls event but by the time we were at the front of the line, it was all gone!
It was a true sign that the new place had to be good.
Oh my word y’all, Peggy’s on the Green is out of this world. From the “straight out of Southern Living” decor to the perfectly prepared food, this restaurant has become our new favorite Hill Country spot.
If you are somewhat familiar Boerne, it’s past the gazebo downtown on the right in the building with Ye Kendall Inn. We really didn’t know what to expect since the concept is so different than Chef Mark Bohanan’s restaurant in downtown San Antonio.
Our waiter couldn’t have been more welcoming. We didn’t even eat steak which they offer much like the SA location. We opted for crab cakes, mushrooms, olive and tomato salad, biscuits and chocolate pie that must have been made by angels!
I will be quiet now so you can drool over the pictures!
We made the drive back to our bed and breakfast lamenting about what a great experience the whole night had been. We even had a front row seat to a wedding taking place in the park across from the restaurant’s patio.
It was a night filled with romance, a new couple tying the knot and a not so new couple reconnecting.
The next morning the spotty cellphone service started working and texts from the kids brought us back to reality.
We’ve made plans to take our soon to be high school graduate son to Peggy’s for a steak to celebrate.
And I’ve booked another surprise get away with my man in the summer.
It’s how we stay married and I stay sassy and sane!
I highly recommend these two places in the Texas Hill Country. It is definitely worth the drive.
I DO NOT get compensated for my blog posts, I just love sharing new experiences with my readers.
Stay Sassy Y’all.
