As I was doing some research on hotels to stay in downtown San Antonio recently, I came across an interesting event being held next week.
It caught my interest because a friend of mine, Barbara Mohs, had participated in some similar events a few years ago. She had purchased bricks with each of her son’s names on them. Now, whenever she is out on the Museum Reach near the San Antonio Museum of Art and on Houston Street in downtown SA, they go find their names on the bricks they purchased. Although each brick benefited different charities and landmarks around town, they both serve as a permanent reminder of her children being a part of the community. What a fun and unique way for her children to have a constant reminder of giving.
The Emily Morgan Hotel is hosting an event that will allow you to have a similar experience for your family members as well. On Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 5 to 7pm, a free cocktail reception is being held on one of the floors that is being renovated in their landmark hotel. Not only will you be served delicious hors d’ oeuvres and cocktails, but you will be able to mark your name in history.
Bricks will be available for purchase at the following levels:
For $20 sign a brick
For $25 sign a brick and leave your card in a time capsule
And you can just put your name on the floor or do both!
For $10 sign the floor
For $15 sign the floor and leave your card in a time capsule
You can show your family and friends where you made your mark on history the next time you visit the Alamo. The Emily Morgan Hotel is located right across the street.
All the proceeds from this benefit will go towards the current efforts having our San Antonio Missions designated as a World Heritage Site. The process of applying for this designation takes 18 months at the cost of $650,000.
Hopefully, the San Antonio Conservation Society will be able to raise these funds. If the Missions receive the World Heritage Site, it would become the first Texas location as well as only one of 22 in the whole United States. Our San Antonio Missions would be in the company of such iconic places like the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef, the Statue of Liberty and the Grand Canyon.
You can be a part of history for a very small donation. Come out and support something so important to San Antonio.
When you are finished buying your bricks and sipping on cocktails, you can make your way down to the hotel’s Psychic Happy Hour! It is a regular Thursday night event located in the restaurant Oro. A psychic palm reading is available to predict your future. I predict that I will be going to this event! They will validate parking for up to 6 hours in the hotel and restaurant.
Not only do I want a prediction of my future, but I want to see their recent renovations and if they will be ready for my man’s birthday celebration. We always stay at a downtown hotel and we have never stayed at the Emily Morgan. Isn’t it gorgeous on the outside? Oh my, I love new experiences!
For more information, you can visit EMILY.
You can also visit the San Antonio Conservation Society’s website to see what other important projects they are currently working on SACONSERVATION.
Stay Sassy Y’all.
