I attended the S A Youth’s Briscoe Friend of Youth Awards today at the invitation of a friend. The honorees for this year are Tim Haegelin, Louis J. Cardenas, and Gordon Hartman. It was held at the Morgan’s Wonderland Event Center. The one thing that stood out more than anything for me was the fact that entire facility was abuzz with activity of some sort. The luncheon was held in their gymnasium. The conference center was being used for a meeting space. The students from the Monarch Academy next door were enjoying the outdoor picnic area and the film crew from Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were filming children playing in the park for an episode that benefits the family of a veteran in Floresville.
I couldn’t be more proud and happy to raise my family in a city that comes out to give. Whether it is time, money or resources, you can always count on San Antonio to lend a helping hand. I just wish the camera could capture all those hearts of gold.
