Botanical Garden in Pictures

We spent part of our Sunday at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. This is the best time of year to get out and see the blooming flowers. It's been awhile since we've strolled around this gorgeous property. And the new StoryBook House exhibit was enough to get us to load up the car with camera packed and explore something new with the houses. Holding hands and watching our girl run from house to house was just what the big Stud and I needed.  I guess you can call it a date since it was just one kid! Day Date Light, yes, that's what I would call it. I hope you enjoy the pictures as … [Read more...]

A Summer Sunrise

We just unpacked the last piece of luggage from which will more than likely be our final trip of the summer. Tomorrow kicks off football practice for our oldest and basketball camp for one of the youngest. And can you believe that one of our daughters wants to shop for school supplies today?  She just can't hold off one more day! Most of our trips this summer revolved around family. This last trip was in my hometown of Kilgore,Texas. There was some playing of golf, catching up with friends and family, a lot of eating and even a little bit of fishing. Only one child likes to … [Read more...]

Hometown Vacation

When you live in a city of a million people, sometimes spending a little time away in a small town is the perfect summer vacation.  And that's what my family decided to do when we went to my hometown of Kilgore, Texas. We booked four nights at a local hotel and acted like tourists. Can you say free breakfast buffet? It has quickly become a tradition to get our entire Ott family together in the month of July. This summer, it was over the 4th  of July holiday. Instead of my usual vacation planning on sites like Tripadvisor, I simply called my brother John. I consider him to be … [Read more...]

Charleston on My Mind

My family hadn't decided until three weeks before our vacation what our destination would be this summer. We knew that we wanted it to include golf, the beach, great food and a family friendly place. When my husband mentioned Charleston, South Carolina being on the top of his bucket list, we decided that this would be the year that he would get to cross it off. After doing research on the internet and booking some of the last plane tickets and hotel rooms available, I was starting to get even more excited about our long over due summer trip. Our plane rides were perfect on the way. We … [Read more...]

In Love with Garner State Park

Some places never quite live up to their hype and leave you disappointed.   We just spent the day at a place that not only lived up to the accolades from many friends, but had us clearing off our schedules for more visits in the near future. One day is not nearly enough to soak in the unforgettable Frio River. My family is undeniably in love with Garner State Park.       I thought that the Frio would be an experience much like tubing on the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. I have  visited both of these rivers many times over the years but never with my … [Read more...]

So, How was your weekend?

I had the most marvelous weekend of food. I felt like I was on vacation. I have been wanting to sit down and blog about it since Saturday night but I haven't had the chance. My mother-in-law is still here and the kids and hubby and the lions and tigers and bears, oh my! I can already tell my schedule will be drastically changed for the summer. I used to come straight home from dropping the kids off and pour my second cup of coffee while listening to Pandora and just blogged whatever I pleased. And then the last school bell rang for the year. Summertime. It is almost 2 o'clock in the … [Read more...]

The Elegance of the Eilan Hotel

If you are in need to transport yourself to Europe without having to purchase a ticket, then the new Eilan Hotel is the place for you. I was not prepared for the sight of this new development as I rounded the curve of the road that leads to their doorway. The view as I drove closer to the destination reminded me of a similar drive I made in Europe back in 1997. I felt as if I was among the many piazzas that I had fallen in love with in Italy those many years ago. The piazzas where you leisurely sip wonderful espresso and eat gelato while watching the fashionable people stroll by seemingly … [Read more...]
