Hometown Vacation

When you live in a city of a million people, sometimes spending a little time away in a small town is the perfect summer vacation.  And that's what my family decided to do when we went to my hometown of Kilgore, Texas. We booked four nights at a local hotel and acted like tourists. Can you say free breakfast buffet? It has quickly become a tradition to get our entire Ott family together in the month of July. This summer, it was over the 4th  of July holiday. Instead of my usual vacation planning on sites like Tripadvisor, I simply called my brother John. I consider him to be … [Read more...]

Sassy in San Antonio with Sarah

Here is another edition to our  "Sassy in San Antonio"  series. It's where I ask friends to tell their things around town that make them feel sassy! This week we are hearing from Sarah. She is a very good friend of my twin mom friend Erin.  Do y'all remember her?  She is the former news anchor and reporter who I met in my SAAMOM group.  She's been posting on her Facebook page how much she loved going to her pilates class. She said it was the best workout she had ever had in her life and she had become really good friends with the owner. Well, I wanted to get to know her a little better, so … [Read more...]

Sassy in San Antonio

I am starting a new series on Livin' Sassy.   I'm calling it "Sassy in San Antonio." It's going to be like the "Sassy Girlfriend Top 10 Favorite Things."   Do y'all remember those?  You'll have to think way back, it's when I first started the blog. I loved it because I got to share my girlfriends with my readers. I could brag on them and their lists would give you a little glimpse into their world.  They came from all over Texas and the US for that matter! Sassiness is universal! Over  the past two years of blogging,  Livin' Sassy has evolved into a little place on the internet to not … [Read more...]

The Sassiest Pumpkin Patches around SA

Don't you just love a pumpkin patch? Well, San Antonio has a big selection. I thought I would compile a list of my all time favorite pumpkins patches in and around San Antonio for my Livin' Sassy readers. After all, over the last fifteen years, I have been taking my kids all over town in search of that perfect picture and experience. I might as well do something useful with all the knowledge I have gained in travels around town with camera in hand. There are all kinds of pumpkin patches to choose from. My list will contain what I find to be the "sassiest," It basically means that they … [Read more...]

JackRyan’s in Downtown Kilgore

As we drove through downtown Kilgore a few weeks ago on our way to my brother Jimmy’s house, we saw a huge amount of cars parked near the railroad tracks. (no picture of all the cars since I was driving at the time!) Was there a festival going on? Could it be it be all the people in town for the Shakespeare Festival or the Balloon Races?  When we arrived at out family reunion, which was pretty crowded since all my siblings and their families were there, we got our answer.   According to the resident foodies in our family, we had just witnessed the typical crowd that lines up … [Read more...]

Charleston on My Mind

My family hadn't decided until three weeks before our vacation what our destination would be this summer. We knew that we wanted it to include golf, the beach, great food and a family friendly place. When my husband mentioned Charleston, South Carolina being on the top of his bucket list, we decided that this would be the year that he would get to cross it off. After doing research on the internet and booking some of the last plane tickets and hotel rooms available, I was starting to get even more excited about our long over due summer trip. Our plane rides were perfect on the way. We … [Read more...]

Selfie Bliss

We just got home from a week in Charleston, South Carolina. It was our first big family trip on a plane in a couple of years. I wasn't sure how the twins might do since  we had to take two planes to reach our final destination. I am happy to report that our kids were awesome during the whole entire week! How could I doubt them? I posted this picture on my Facebook page on the way to Charleston.  This was after take off! Their grandpa would be proud! Flying is in their blood, after all! Our son was a few rows behind his little sisters being all teenagerly cool. Is that a … [Read more...]

Cool Crest is Back and Better than Ever

In case you haven’t heard the news, Cool Crest is back and better than ever! The re-opening of this iconic and much loved miniature golf course has been quite the community effort.           From the restoration of the benches to the countless hours of bringing the lush vegetation back to life, I can’t recall a more focused effort of restoring something to it’s original splendor.         And after taking my family there on Saturday, I can honestly say it is much more than I … [Read more...]

Picture Perfect Farmer’s Market

There is just something about a farmer's market that makes my heart skip a beat.              It might be the fresh produce.    It could be the people you encounter that appreciate the unique taste of the produce by  purchasing directly from the farmers.      It could be meeting fellow dog … [Read more...]

The Element Hotel

Does a weekend trip away with your son's basketball team mean that you have to give up on feeling sassy? Well, not if you stay in a hotel that my husband stumbled upon while surfing the internet! We recently returned home from Houston and our second  stay at the Element Hotel.  Our boy's team played in a tournament at gyms in the Tomball, Spring and Klein areas of Northwest Houston. I normally don't get too excited about staying in a hotel when I am at one of my son's sporting events. We typically aren't in the room long enough for me to even form an opinion. And most of the places we … [Read more...]
