Botanical Garden in Pictures

We spent part of our Sunday at the San Antonio Botanical Garden. This is the best time of year to get out and see the blooming flowers. It's been awhile since we've strolled around this gorgeous property. And the new StoryBook House exhibit was enough to get us to load up the car with camera packed and explore something new with the houses. Holding hands and watching our girl run from house to house was just what the big Stud and I needed.  I guess you can call it a date since it was just one kid! Day Date Light, yes, that's what I would call it. I hope you enjoy the pictures as … [Read more...]

Amy is Getting Married

My niece Amy is getting married in a couple of months. It's hard to believe that she's all grown up. She was the cutest toddler. She had these curly blonde ringlets and beautiful blue-green eyes. And the sunniest personality, just like her momma Deb Deb! Oh my gosh, everyone loves this young lady. She was the school mascot for all four years of high school. She cheered for those Bulldogs with pride and all the while in that big, heavy costume.  Our girl has some grit! I am pretty sure she gets a lot of her sense of humor from her daddy. My brother Jimmy is going to have a hard … [Read more...]

A Summer Sunrise

We just unpacked the last piece of luggage from which will more than likely be our final trip of the summer. Tomorrow kicks off football practice for our oldest and basketball camp for one of the youngest. And can you believe that one of our daughters wants to shop for school supplies today?  She just can't hold off one more day! Most of our trips this summer revolved around family. This last trip was in my hometown of Kilgore,Texas. There was some playing of golf, catching up with friends and family, a lot of eating and even a little bit of fishing. Only one child likes to … [Read more...]

The Magic of Rainbows

We were at a hotel this weekend right across from the Tobin Performing Arts Center. It was a birthday sleepover party for our ten year old girls and a few friends. What's not to love about eating potato chips and cupcakes, ordering pizza and swimming in a hotel  pool? We didn't think we would get to swim because of the rainstorm. Thank heavens we came prepared with games of Twister and Monopoly. I mean, they are Girl Scouts and prepared for anything! When the rain finally stopped and the sun started peeking through the clouds, I declared it was time to go swimming. I have never … [Read more...]

Selfie Bliss

We just got home from a week in Charleston, South Carolina. It was our first big family trip on a plane in a couple of years. I wasn't sure how the twins might do since  we had to take two planes to reach our final destination. I am happy to report that our kids were awesome during the whole entire week! How could I doubt them? I posted this picture on my Facebook page on the way to Charleston.  This was after take off! Their grandpa would be proud! Flying is in their blood, after all! Our son was a few rows behind his little sisters being all teenagerly cool. Is that a … [Read more...]

Picture Perfect Farmer’s Market

There is just something about a farmer's market that makes my heart skip a beat.              It might be the fresh produce.    It could be the people you encounter that appreciate the unique taste of the produce by  purchasing directly from the farmers.      It could be meeting fellow dog … [Read more...]

How She Said No to Diabetes

When my friend Carrie Bond came to the Livin' Sassy event a few weeks ago, she left with something she never thought she would; a size 8 pair of skinny jeans. She brought them back to our table with tears in her eyes. I asked her why she was so emotional. She said she hadn't worn that size since junior high. At that moment, I knew I had to share her story with my readers. There are so many women that are just like Carrie. The minute they become a busy mother and even busier employee, their own personal health and wellness take a back seat to all of their other responsibilities. Her life in … [Read more...]

The Jingu House Restaurant

My family has lived in San Antonio long enough to recall a time that the Japanese Tea Gardens were in disrepair and not open to the public. It had been such an historic landmark since opening in 1915. It seemed odd to not be able to visit while you were near the San Antonio Zoo or Brackenridge Park. When it did finally reopen in 2008, I made a vow to myself that I would try and visit this scenic and unique tourist attraction at least once a year.           So far, I have gone with my family to have their photographs taken among the huge waterfall, … [Read more...]
