Date Night in the Hill Country

Date Night? What's that? I've got too much to do with the kids and all their activities......blah, blah, blah. Let me tell you a little secret. If you don't carve out a little space for each other, you will regret it. And you will be in a better frame of mind and less stressed out! Marriage is hard. You must get away every now and then. Do you really want to wake up one day after the last kid is going off to college and realize you don't even know that person you married  anymore?  If not, you need to get to work and figure out a way to get together! I've been thinking about … [Read more...]

Amy is Getting Married

My niece Amy is getting married in a couple of months. It's hard to believe that she's all grown up. She was the cutest toddler. She had these curly blonde ringlets and beautiful blue-green eyes. And the sunniest personality, just like her momma Deb Deb! Oh my gosh, everyone loves this young lady. She was the school mascot for all four years of high school. She cheered for those Bulldogs with pride and all the while in that big, heavy costume.  Our girl has some grit! I am pretty sure she gets a lot of her sense of humor from her daddy. My brother Jimmy is going to have a hard … [Read more...]

There’s a Reason It’s Called Comfort

When I was trying to decide where we could go for our 20th wedding anniversary getaway,  the only requirement was that it should be quiet and relaxing. With a very busy house of 3 kids, it's a luxury! In case you haven't been to this little part of the Hill Country in awhile, you will be in for a nice surprise. We found out very soon that Comfort is so much more than their 4th of July parades.    The GPS says that Comfort, Texas is exactly 37 miles from our driveway.  After staying two nights, it felt more like a million miles away! We booked a room at the Hotel Faust after seeing … [Read more...]

When Did You Stop Dancing?

I went to a wedding this past weekend. It was held in the Dallas area where I lived for over twelve years. I made lots of friendships over that amount of time. It started out as a family trip. We booked a hotel room in Frisco that had an indoor pool. And two of our kids ended up getting a virus and stayed behind with my husband. It was just me and one of my 8 year old twin daughters, Savannah. She couldn't believe that it was going to be the two of us. It is pretty rare to spend so much time with one child when you have three children. The weather forecast called for heavy … [Read more...]

Love and Head Shots

Well,  I’m Back! Did y’all miss me? I sure did miss you! I was hunkered down in an undisclosed location for what seemed like an eternity! I had a goal and I reached it. I will tell you more about that later! My big blog redesign happened, although it is more like a sprucing up.  It reminds me of a spa treatment right before you go to your class reunion! Your friends swear you look different but they aren’t quite sure why. Livin’ Sassy is refreshed and ready for some more blogging! And as part of the new design, I recently had some head shots done. I talked the big Stud … [Read more...]

Change and Adaptability

Change. Adaptability. These are two words that I have been using quite a bit lately, not only in my personal life but my professional life as well. If you live long enough, you realize how well you accept change can make a difference in your overall attitude. One of my friends has been on my mind because she has been going through tremendous change in her life, but she is more than used to adapting to change. I first met MaryAnn Arbogast when I was on a sales call in Dallas.  She was a potential client and I was hoping to see if her company would consider changing their list of … [Read more...]

Pinterest Comes to Life Once a Year

I just spent the weekend with my husband. And unlike the other fifty-one weekends of the year, it was just us. We have gotten away for at least one night together for the last nineteen years. It started out as a way to celebrate my husband's birthday. After the kids arrived, it became mandatory for our marriage to stay happy. If the budget allows, we like to choose a four star hotel because it just makes it even more special. There have been plenty of years that it ended up being a one star hotel! It really doesn't matter where we escape but just the fact that we … [Read more...]

Because Every Day Should Be Valentine’s Day #3

This is our last edition of Because Every Day Should be Valentine's Day.  In this series of posts, I reached out to 3 of my friends that I know to have pretty happy marriages. I sent them a list of questions to answer without either spouse seeing each other's answers. I have featured a couple for the last 2 Sundays in a row. I keep being amazed  after reading their answers at  how every couple is different but they all seem to have a couple of things in common; respect and admiration for one another. These marriages have stood the test of time. The longer they are married, the more they fall … [Read more...]

Because Every Day Should Be Valentine’s Day #2

Welcome to our second installment of "Because Every Day Should Be Valentine's Day." I reached out to 3 of my friends and asked them to share with my Livin' Sassy readers their secrets to a pretty happy marriage. Each spouse was to fill out a questionnaire  on their own without knowing each other's answers. It's been fun to see how different their answers have been but still focused on the love that they share for one another. Last week we had Charlie and Sherry (click for full post) that have been married for over 30 years.   And this week we have Jay and … [Read more...]
