Thankful

November has been a whirlwind month for our family.   We’ve been going back and forth to Dallas to be with Nana who has been in the hospital. A couple of weeks ago, the doctors were preparing us for the worst scenario. After a very angst filed six days of biopsies and waiting for test results, we had the best of news. The doctors seemed shocked at the results.  Did you know it is possible to actually jump for joy? Good thing there were plenty of doctors and nurses on hand when I came back down! God had a different plan. Soon my mother in law will be back in her … [Read more...]

A Yellow Rose

I’ve gotten to the point in life that I am having to attend a lot of funerals. It’s not exactly something that I look forward to but in some unexpected ways, they’ve become a place of comfort. My earliest memory of Chris Dukes was hearing her high heels tap down the long hallway that lead to my daddy’s office. As she turned the corner with her boys in tow, I saw her bright red hair and even brighter red lipstick. She was wearing a white, starched shirt, black pencil skirt and sling back black pumps. And as she stepped into the lobby area full of people waiting their turn to see the … [Read more...]

Women Who Inspire

I often hesitate to use the word "inspiring" as a description of an event. People are inspired by so many different things. Yesterday, at Women in the World Texas, it was very apparent that the entire sold out audience was inspired by what took place in six hours at the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. One by one they spoke.   There was no big production stage; only words, powerful words.  They came from all walks of life and various backgrounds.  No politics. No hidden agendas. Only words.  Even at the end … [Read more...]

Why ALS Research Matters

I've probably seen hundreds of ALS Ice Bucket Challenges show up on my various social media feeds by now. I've only actually clicked on just a handful. It's not because I don't care. I think the #IceBucketChallenge may go down in history as the most successful social media campaigns ever. It is certainly a novel idea. It's very easy to be a participant and make your own video to share with your friends and followers.  After all, it's all  in the name of charity!       While I can't speak for my entire family, I can safely say that my immediate family … [Read more...]

Flowers in Abundance

I've been walking by this single white rose since Friday. I brought it home from a funeral I attended and put it in a little vase. The husband asked the congregation to take some flowers with them as they exited the church. There were way too many for him and his family to take home. His wife had many friends. And each time I pass by and catch a glimpse of these now browning petals, I feel such a pain in my heart from the loss of someone so special. I pray that her boys will be alright. She taught me so much about being an advocate for my daughter. I don't think I ever … [Read more...]

When Did You Stop Dancing?

I went to a wedding this past weekend. It was held in the Dallas area where I lived for over twelve years. I made lots of friendships over that amount of time. It started out as a family trip. We booked a hotel room in Frisco that had an indoor pool. And two of our kids ended up getting a virus and stayed behind with my husband. It was just me and one of my 8 year old twin daughters, Savannah. She couldn't believe that it was going to be the two of us. It is pretty rare to spend so much time with one child when you have three children. The weather forecast called for heavy … [Read more...]

Love and Head Shots

Well,  I’m Back! Did y’all miss me? I sure did miss you! I was hunkered down in an undisclosed location for what seemed like an eternity! I had a goal and I reached it. I will tell you more about that later! My big blog redesign happened, although it is more like a sprucing up.  It reminds me of a spa treatment right before you go to your class reunion! Your friends swear you look different but they aren’t quite sure why. Livin’ Sassy is refreshed and ready for some more blogging! And as part of the new design, I recently had some head shots done. I talked the big Stud … [Read more...]

Big Changes Coming to Livin’ Sassy

My little blog has been awfully quiet lately, too quiet. I never knew how much I loved blogging until I stopped doing it full time. Something happened a few months ago that put me on a path for change. I received a phone call in my car during my work -day. It was someone wanting to publish one of my blog posts in their national magazine. Who, me? Oh yes, I do have a blog! I did write that story of those amazing women. I then went to the post on my smart phone and read it again. I cried. Oh, how I love the power of words. I love to be moved to tears in observation of … [Read more...]

Bon Jovi Concert Pictures

Do y'all remember when Livin' Sassy gave away some tickets to see Bon Jovi? Think way back! As in July! I know, I have a hard time remembering yesterday in my busy world of motherhood! Since I started working full-time, I've been extra busy and haven't been able to go to as many things as I used to, like a concert for instance! I had intended to go and take pictures of the winners and their dates so share with all my readers. I had a scheduling conflict so it wasn't meant to be. So I asked them if they would be so kind as to take a few pictures to share with us so we can see for … [Read more...]

A Woman of Significance

Last year on September 5th, my day began like any other day. I struggled to get the kids out of bed because they were still adjusting to the start of a new school year. I raced my daughter Catherine into class just as the tardy bell rang. I met a colleague and friend for breakfast. I ran a few errands and then it was time to pick up the kids from school.   It was just another day. I would have even called it rather … [Read more...]
