Golfing in the Hill Country

When  I was growing up, our family spent time together sailing on Lake Tyler. And then when our daddy bought a little airplane, we spent weekends out at the airport. We affectionately referred to it as, "the Kilgore International Airport." It was so little that I used the runways for driving practice when I was learning how to drive. My daddy gave me the keys to his Datsun pickup and instructed me to, "Keep an eye out for a plane that might want to land and just pull over!" Oh, the perks of small town life! Now many years later, my family of five is enjoying the game of golf together. … [Read more...]

There’s a Reason It’s Called Comfort

When I was trying to decide where we could go for our 20th wedding anniversary getaway,  the only requirement was that it should be quiet and relaxing. With a very busy house of 3 kids, it's a luxury! In case you haven't been to this little part of the Hill Country in awhile, you will be in for a nice surprise. We found out very soon that Comfort is so much more than their 4th of July parades.    The GPS says that Comfort, Texas is exactly 37 miles from our driveway.  After staying two nights, it felt more like a million miles away! We booked a room at the Hotel Faust after seeing … [Read more...]

The Sassiest Pumpkin Patches around SA

Don't you just love a pumpkin patch? Well, San Antonio has a big selection. I thought I would compile a list of my all time favorite pumpkins patches in and around San Antonio for my Livin' Sassy readers. After all, over the last fifteen years, I have been taking my kids all over town in search of that perfect picture and experience. I might as well do something useful with all the knowledge I have gained in travels around town with camera in hand. There are all kinds of pumpkin patches to choose from. My list will contain what I find to be the "sassiest," It basically means that they … [Read more...]

Jackets Galore at Scarlett in Fredericksburg

When I was a little girl, my love of traveling around Texas first came from looking through Texas Highways Magazine. The pictures were what captivated me most of all. The magazine would first arrive addressed to my daddy’s medical practice where his patients would be the first ones to glance at them. When a new issue would arrive, we were then allowed to bring the old one home. I would read it cover to cover. And then go back and read through them again and again. It was so fascinating in my then child’s mind how all of these different topographies could be in the state of Texas. I wanted to … [Read more...]

In Love with Garner State Park

Some places never quite live up to their hype and leave you disappointed.   We just spent the day at a place that not only lived up to the accolades from many friends, but had us clearing off our schedules for more visits in the near future. One day is not nearly enough to soak in the unforgettable Frio River. My family is undeniably in love with Garner State Park.       I thought that the Frio would be an experience much like tubing on the Guadalupe and Comal Rivers. I have  visited both of these rivers many times over the years but never with my … [Read more...]

Flying L Water Park

The heat is on in San Antonio. If you have kids then you know that it almost a necessity if you are playing outdoors to find some water somewhere to cool off. We have season passes to a local theme park but their waterpark gets very crowded. I don't like places that are too crowded to move and neither do my kids. Last year, we found the perfect place to suit our needs. The Flying L Ranch's Water Park is located in Bandera. It's a quick and scenic drive up Bandera Rd. It is located on the Flying L Guest Ranch. The ranch is a hotel that is much like a dude ranch. You will feel as if … [Read more...]
