My Brother Cletus Painting

A little bit before Christmas, I saw a Facebook post from St. Mary’s University announcing that Brother Cletus would be closing his art gallery. He would gradually be cutting his hours until shuttering it all together. He will finally retire from almost forty years of operating the St. Mary’s University Art Center. My first reaction was, “Wait, what? He can’t retire! I don’t have my Brother Cletus yet!” I wasn’t aware of his work until I moved to San Antonio and noticed these beautiful paintings in bright and vivid colors. They were pieces depicting our Missions, the River Walk and … [Read more...]

2013 Kinetic Kids Hootenanny

In 2001, when physical therapists Tracey Fontenot and Kacey Wernli decided to offer a program that would allow children with disabilities access to a recreational sport. Parents were very eager to enroll their children in programs such as soccer, t-ball, dance, gymnastics and golf.   These programs were much like those that you would find at a local YMCA. You would see  parents beaming with pride while watching their kids learn … [Read more...]

2012 Buddy Walk-South Texas Style

I first became associated with the Down Syndrome Association of South Texas (formerly called the Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio) when I received confirmation that one of my twin daughters would be born with Trisomy 21, more commonly known as Down Syndrome.           Having received this news in the maternal fetal specialist’s office, we were given a pamphlet and offered apologies for having to be given such negative results of the amniocentesis.             After a few hours of hugs and … [Read more...]
