The Story Behind The Picture

In am reposting this in honor of World Down Syndrome Day. I am honored to know these two amazing families and share their incredible story of faith and love.  This picture has been circulating around the Internet for quite awhile. It went viral after it was posted on the International Down Syndrome Coalition's Facebook page. It was part of a campaign to promote awareness of those with DS. It was a collaboration between the local Down Syndrome Association of San Antonio and the IDSC. I can think of a couple of reasons why it touched so many people's hearts. The little girl in the … [Read more...]

Magnolia Market Silos and Food Trucks

In case you haven't heard, Chip and Joanna Gaines of Fixer Upper fame are kinda popular! And if you need proof of  how popular, just count the number of out of state license plates there are on the cars parked outside of Magnolia Market in downtown Waco. It was a lot! You might need one of those clickers to count them all like they use at Costco to count their customers! Yes, my friends, Waco is a certified tourist destination! I made a quick trip on Friday on my way to East Texas. I've been used to stopping on this part of the interstate in travels to Kilgore for the seventeen years … [Read more...]

There’s a Reason It’s Called Comfort

When I was trying to decide where we could go for our 20th wedding anniversary getaway,  the only requirement was that it should be quiet and relaxing. With a very busy house of 3 kids, it's a luxury! In case you haven't been to this little part of the Hill Country in awhile, you will be in for a nice surprise. We found out very soon that Comfort is so much more than their 4th of July parades.    The GPS says that Comfort, Texas is exactly 37 miles from our driveway.  After staying two nights, it felt more like a million miles away! We booked a room at the Hotel Faust after seeing … [Read more...]

Cool Crest is Back and Better than Ever

In case you haven’t heard the news, Cool Crest is back and better than ever! The re-opening of this iconic and much loved miniature golf course has been quite the community effort.           From the restoration of the benches to the countless hours of bringing the lush vegetation back to life, I can’t recall a more focused effort of restoring something to it’s original splendor.         And after taking my family there on Saturday, I can honestly say it is much more than I … [Read more...]

My Big Hair: A Historical Perspective

I was born with naturally curly hair. I used to hate it when I was growing up. I finally appreciated it by the time I reached high school. I was looking through some old photos while I was cleaning out my guest bedroom closet. I could almost give you the exact date simply by seeing my hair style in the photograph. My hair style has changed over the years but one thing I couldn't help but notice was that I have really big hair. I mean, really, really big hair. I thought it would be fun for you to see a little historical look at my life of big hair. Let's call it, "Sassy-A Historical Look … [Read more...]

The Long and Winding Road

I took a trip down the “Long and Winding Road” near my hometown in East Texas this past weekend. I haven't been down this road in a very long time. It is about 3 miles long and full of twists and curves. Not only is it scenic but is also somewhat secluded as well.   I don't know the history of who might have given this little road the unofficial name after the famous Beatles song. I only remember that when I was a teenager, everyone who had ever been on it knew exactly what road you were referring to without ever having to give directions to meet them there. You simply had to say, … [Read more...]

Secrets for a Pretty Happy Marriage

This year the hubby and I will be married 18 years. I can’t believe it. The fact that time has flown by so quickly or that we have somehow managed to cruise along with some pretty big bumps in the road is not taken for granted. Throughout the years, marriage and how to keep it happy has often been the topic of many gatherings with my girlfriends. Every marriage is different, but there seems to be some common themes and pieces of advice that I would love to share with you. I am in no way an expert in this area, but by Hollywood standards 18 years of marriage would automatically qualify me to be … [Read more...]
