De Rigueur of Kilgore

Style. Are you born with it? Do you acquire it over time? Who inspired your sense of style? For me, I know that I was influenced by my mother. She would never go out of the house without her lipstick. When she wasn't wearing nursing scrubs at my dad's office, she loved to wear suits and dresses. I very rarely saw her in a pair of pants. I also remember being mesmerized by Judy McCracken and  Chris Dukes .  I would see Judy at my friend  Melissa's house. She would have clothes delivered to her by The Toggery which was a local ladies apparel store. She would try on the outfits for us … [Read more...]

Getting Sassy at Holiday Ole’ Market

The Junior League of San Antonio's  Holiday Ole' Market is right around the corner. In the 22nd year, this one of kind shopping experience is taking on a Parisian flair.  Ooh, La La! The title of this year's event is "Joyeux Noel" and is set to begin on Thursday, October 15th and end on Sunday, October 18th at Freeman Coliseum's Expo Hall. I am a current sustainer and long time member of the JLSA. I also served on the Ole' Market Committee and have first hand knowledge of how many hours it takes to host such a spectacular event. These ladies have already spent countless hours away from … [Read more...]

SA’s Secret Party Dress Outlet

My very first outlet shopping experience was back in the 1980's when we drove from my hometown of Kilgore,Texas to Dallas to find my sister Lynn and me our high school beauty pageant dresses. My daddy was worried how much we would spend. We went to the Victor Costa Outlet so he didn't have to worry. Do y'all remember that place? It was supposed to be a big secret but everyone knew about it! It was THE place for prom, formal and high school beauty pageants dresses, especially when you had six girls in the family. I just went to a place in San Antonio very similar to the old Victor … [Read more...]

Holiday Ole Market Fashions

The 21st edition of the Junior League of San Antonio's Holiday Ole Market kicked off last night at the Expo Hall at the Freeman Coliseum. This one of the the JLSA's major fundraisers. All the net proceeds go directly back into the community by the programs that they support. And it's just loads of fun to look at everything.   I met my friend Marilyn there so we could do a little shopping and catch up with old friends. We were in Junior League over the same time period and just got finished serving on Antonian's  Heritage Gala committee together. I asked her, OK, begged her to … [Read more...]

Joli Boutique

I met my friend Monica for lunch the other day. I couldn't wait to sit down and talk to her about all the new things going on in her life. Her kids go to the same school as mine, but we usually only have time to wave at each other in the car pool lane! I first met her when her husband Tommy coached my then 5 year son old's flag football team at the YMCA. And they would eventually figure out that my husband and Tommy actually played against each other in college football. They had to have tackled each other while Tommy was at Sul Ross and Steve was playing for Austin College. They … [Read more...]

My latest Sam Moon finds

FULL DISCLAIMER: This is a lame attempt at a post on Sassy Looks! I just wanted to tell you the truth upfront that this is a lame post! If you ever go over to the full blown website and see the category under "Sassy Looks" then you would know that I haven't updated it since March! And it's been really bothering me! It is usually  the section of the blog when I get my friends together and we take pictures at a new store in town. I have been trying since June to get various friends together. And they have all been on vacation! It doesn't really help that I now work full time so I am … [Read more...]

Spring into Moda Luna

Our “Sassy Mom” models are back! And it’s a good thing because I was starting to get a little nervous twitch. I haven’t been able to coordinate with my friends to go shopping together. This full-time working is cramping my style a little bit! Can you believe they expect you to work and everything! Well, I managed to ask, convince, cajole, OK, beg really, a couple of my new coworkers to go hunt for some spring fashions so I can update my blog.  It was way overdue for some spring looks. We had already bonded over the love of bargain shopping. When you are high fived by someone because … [Read more...]

Jackets Galore at Scarlett in Fredericksburg

When I was a little girl, my love of traveling around Texas first came from looking through Texas Highways Magazine. The pictures were what captivated me most of all. The magazine would first arrive addressed to my daddy’s medical practice where his patients would be the first ones to glance at them. When a new issue would arrive, we were then allowed to bring the old one home. I would read it cover to cover. And then go back and read through them again and again. It was so fascinating in my then child’s mind how all of these different topographies could be in the state of Texas. I wanted to … [Read more...]

Evolving into Sassy

The Livin’ Sassy Club hosted its very first meeting last week. In case you don’t know what that means, it is basically just an excuse to get out of the house so I won’t have to look at the laundry. I asked my friends to come and join me so they can ignore their laundry too.                       I thought it would be fun to gather at a local restaurant and throw in some fashion and jewelry. I know there are some women out there that don’t enjoy wine, clothes and costume jewelry but I haven’t met them … [Read more...]

Bless Your Ole’

Holiday Ole’ Market is just around the corner. It is the perfect place to find unique and specialized gifts to put under your Christmas tree.  It is also combines shopping and entertainment like no other event in town. I think I have attended every year. I also served on the Ole’ committee when I was a member of the Junior League. I may gush a little bit on this post. I just can’t help myself! I am spotlighting a few local merchants that you will find at the Junior League of San Antonio’s major fundraising event. It will be held beginning on Wednesday, October 24th through Saturday October … [Read more...]
