Here’s to our Heroes Military Parade

San Antonio loves a parade. The nation’s first ever event, Here’s to Our Heroes Military River Parade is set for this weekend along our beautiful River Walk beginning at 3pm.

How fitting that Military City USA will be the site of such a wonderful event. It will take place on National Armed Forces Day, Saturday May 19, 2012.

The City of San Antonio is going to dye the river blue as a unique honor for our Armed Forces. The River Walk parade route will also be decorated with Yellow Ribbons that have been purchased by the community in honor or memory of those who serve or have served our country.

Opening ceremonies will take place at the Arneson River Theatre at 3pm. The parade will feature 25 decorated floats themed by the participants of all branches of the military, veterans and military support groups.

Following the parade, the celebration continues with a free concert hosted by Operation Homefront, a national non-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency financial assistance to military members and their families. Country Star, Tracy Lawrence will perform at Hemisfair Park in front of the Institute of Texan Cultures.

Come early and enjoy the beautiful weather by taking a stroll up the newest part of the River Walk, the Museum Reach, where the VFW Post is located. If you walk all the way up to the Pearl, you can see the flowers that are in full bloom. I was just there this weekend with my family. It is just breathtaking. You can always come early enough for lunch during the Farmers Market that ends at 1pm but be sure and stroll back down the River Walk to grab a spot for the festivities that begin at 3pm.

San Antonio loves our River Walk and our Military families even more. I can’t think of a better way to enjoy the beauty that is our city then getting out and celebrating by showing our full support for this inaugural event, Here’s to our Heroes Military River Parade.

The concert is free and so is the parade. If  you would like to purchase tickets for reserved seating and for more detailed information, please visit

You can also find the names of our brave military men and women that have been honored with Yellow Ribbons on the website as well.

God Bless our Troops.
